As we step into spring here along the shoreline, we’ve been reflecting on how much meaningful connection depends on hearing well—whether it’s sharing a meal with family, catching up with friends, or simply enjoying the sounds of the season around us.
The ospreys are back in Old Saybrook, a sure sign that spring has arrived, and it’s little moments like these that remind us how much we value staying connected to the world around us.
It truly remains a privilege to care for you and to bring personalized hearing care directly to your home or at our office.

Spring Sounds Are Back
There’s something special about spring along the shoreline—the return of the ospreys, birds chirping in the morning, waves gently rolling in, and the sound of friends and family gathering outdoors again.
These are the little sounds that make the season feel alive.
But many people don’t realize that these are often the first sounds to become harder to hear. High-pitched sounds like birds, or soft environmental sounds, can gradually fade without us noticing. Conversations outside—especially with wind or background noise—can also become more difficult.
If you’ve found yourself asking people to repeat more often, turning the TV up a little louder, or feeling like conversations are just not as clear as they used to be, you’re not alone—and it may be worth taking a closer look.
Sometimes, a simple adjustment or a quick clean and check can make a meaningful difference.

I recently listened to Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid, and it was one of those audiobooks that completely draws you in from the very beginning.
The narration is what truly makes this story shine. Hearing the emotion in each character’s voice—the subtle pauses, the tone, and the feeling behind the words—adds such a powerful layer to the experience. It felt personal, almost like the story was being told just for me.
What I especially loved was listening to this book directly through my hearing aids. The clarity and richness of the sound made it so easy to stay fully engaged without missing a single detail. It’s moments like this that remind me how incredible this technology really is—not just for conversations, but for enjoying things like books in a whole new way.
The story itself is thoughtful and beautifully written—centered around connection, identity, and the quiet moments that shape our lives. It’s the kind of book that stays with you.
If you enjoy audiobooks, I highly recommend giving this one a listen—especially since many of you have the ability to stream it right to your hearing aids. It’s such a simple, meaningful way to reconnect with stories and truly enjoy every word.

Getting the Most Out of Your Hearing Aids
Hi everyone, Justine here!
I thought I’d start this new section with something simple but incredibly helpful. Many of you don’t realize just how much your hearing aids can do beyond helping you hear better in person.
If you have a smartphone, your hearing aids can often connect directly to it, allowing you to:
- Stream phone calls directly into your ears
- Listen to music or audiobooks more clearly
- Adjust volume or settings from an app
- Locate your hearing aids if they are misplaced and the feature is supported
It’s like having a personalized sound system with you wherever you go.
Rechargeable vs. Battery Hearing Aids
Most newer hearing aids today are rechargeable, but hearing aids that use traditional batteries can still connect in the same way.
The only difference is how you restart them for pairing:
Rechargeable: Place them in the charger, then take them out.
Battery-operated: Open and close the battery doors.
How to Connect Your Hearing Aids to Your Phone
For iPhone
- Go to Settings
- Tap Accessibility
- Tap Hearing Devices
- Restart your hearing aids
- Wait for your hearing aids to appear
- Tap them to connect
- Press Pair when prompted
For Android
- Go to Settings
- Tap Connections or Bluetooth
- Turn Bluetooth on
- Restart your hearing aids
- Look under available devices
- Tap your hearing aids to pair
Steps may vary slightly depending on your phone model and hearing aid manufacturer.

Spring Has Sprung
Winter woes have come and gone,
No more windy chills,
Another solar cycle,
Sunshine, warmth and daffodils.
Plants and creatures will awaken,
Cabin fever will subside,
We’re surely not mistaken,
That most life’s pleasure is outside.
To cherish moments we’re awake,
Warm seasons disappear,
Advantage we must take,
This is what we live for every year.
Listen to all the sounds of spring,
Watching birds in flight,
For the songs they sing,
Makes the gloomiest day bright.
What a crazy winter it was here in Connecticut—we had snow piled up to our thighs. There were days it felt like winter would never end, with snowbanks everywhere and layers upon layers just to get outside. It definitely kept things interesting this year.
It is hard to believe that was only a few weeks ago. Now we’re starting to see the seasons shift, the days getting a little longer, and those beautiful sunsets making their return along the shoreline.
March gave us some beautiful sunsets along the shoreline—and it has us really looking forward to those long summer nights ahead. There’s nothing better than being outside, spending time with family and friends, and soaking it all in.
